Dual Roster Opportunity (12U and Younger Girls)
Girls at the 12U level and below are eligible to dual roster on both a girls’ travel team and a youth/co-ed travel team. If a player plans to try out as a dual roster candidate, they must register for both the Co-Ed/Youth Tryout first and then the Girls Tryout second. Families registering for both should email registrar@restonraiders.com to receive a discount code for the second (Girls) tryout registration.
Tryout Dates (Set by the USAH Affiliate)
Tryout dates are determined by the regional USA Hockey Affiliate, not by the Raiders.
Tryouts for 8U, 10U, and 12U Co-Ed and Girls teams will take place March 20–23, while tryouts for 14U and older Co-Ed and Girls teams will be held April 18–20.
Goalies will participate in the regular tryout sessions during the week and will also attend a separate Goalie-Only Evaluation Day.
Team Naming & Levels
At each age level, Co-Ed/Youth Raider teams are named from top to bottom:
Blue → Silver → Black → White
Blue teams compete at the AA level
Other teams are placed at AA, A, or B levels depending on overall team strength
Tryout Format & Attendance Requirements
Each age group will have three tryout sessions.
Session 1 is mandatory for Co-Ed/Youth tryouts unless approval is granted by the Travel Director. All players in both the Co-Ed/Youth and Girls programs must participate in at least two of the three sessions.
In addition, before stepping on the ice for the third session, all families are required to sign the Financial Agreement, which binds the player to any roster spot that is offered.
Roster Selection Process
Roster offers may be made after the 1st or 2nd session, but not all players will receive early offers. Selection order:
- Blue rosters finalized first
- Silver rosters next
- Black and White rosters completed on the final day of tryouts
Spring Skating & Early Team Activities
Fall travel teams will begin skating in the spring, starting the week after tryouts. Spring activities may include one practice per week and one or two spring tournaments (team choice).
Girls Spring Selects
The Raiders anticipate offering all-girls teams that will participate in the Co-Ed Spring House Program. More details and registration information will follow.
Optional Tryout Prep Skill Sessions
RRHC will offer optional weekly skill sessions for players registered for tryouts.

Tryout Fees & Refund Policy
10U and Older (Co-Ed/Youth)
Non-refundable registration fee: $175
Breakdown: $100 covers tryout ice time and admin costs. $75 applies toward Raider travel registration fee or House league registration fee (2026–27). Important notes: If you skate 2 of 3 sessions and play for the Raiders, the $75 applies. If you are cut, go elsewhere, or do not attend, the $75 is not refundable.
LTP/8U Players (Co-Ed/Youth)
Tryout fee: $100
Applied toward fall registration if placed on a Raider 8U Travel team
March tryouts will be used to select only the 8U Blue team (18-20 players), and they will also allow us to begin evaluating players for potential placement on the Silver and Black teams. There will not be a second set of fall tryouts for Silver and Black; instead, invitations will begin in September based on performance at House practices and information gathered during the March tryouts. All LTP & 8U players are encouraged to skate so they can be evaluated ahead of September Silver/Black invitations. Each 8U roster carries 18–20 players to allow split squads at jamborees and cross-ice games.
Girls Travel Team Tryouts
Tryout fee: $100
Raiders Philosophy & Development
For more than 30 years, the Raiders have focused on fostering a love of the game, supporting long-term player development, and providing competitive hockey with a “Fun Hockey for Kids” approach while following USA Hockey ADM guidelines. Winning is viewed as a byproduct of proper development.
Important Program Facts for Families
Tier I hockey in the region is limited, with only three Tier I/AAA programs currently operating locally: Washington Little Caps, Team Maryland, and Washington Pride (Girls). No other area teams will compete at the Tier I level next season, as programs cannot declare themselves Tier I without approval from USA Hockey and the USA Hockey Regional Affiliate.
The Raiders are members of the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League (CBHL), which includes more than 25 teams and provides a balanced, predictable schedule for its participants. League members can be viewed through the CBHL League Members listing.
Across most hockey programs, club hopping is strongly discouraged. CBHL requires players to obtain a written release before switching clubs after roster placement and mandates that full season fees be paid to the departing club. Raiders policy goes even further, requiring any player who leaves RRHC for another non–Tier I program to petition the Raider Board in order to return.
Goalie Incentives & Development
For 10U and older, RRHC offers a $500 goalie rebate at the end of the season for up to two goalies per team, provided they play a meaningful percentage of games. In addition, the Raiders provide the area’s most comprehensive goalie training program, which is included in club fees through their Goalie Academy and Loudoun Ice Centre partners.
Parent Informational Meetings
RRHC will host one or two virtual Tryout Information Meetings for the Co-Ed/Youth and Girls Travel Programs. These sessions will provide a program overview, an opportunity for questions and answers, and improved two-way communication between the club and families. Dates and times will be announced soon.
