FAQ:

  • Who do I pay?
  • The Reston Raiders Coaches League is subsidized by the RRHC, the ice is sold to the coaches, and all payments will be submitted via the Raiders website. Only a valid card payment is accepted.
  • How much is the season?
  • We are getting 2 ice slots and the number purchased will justify the cost of $325.
  •  Can I be placed on the weekly "Scrub" list?
  • Yes, any coach who is invited is asked to pay the weekly fee of $25. The fee is utilized for coach's apparel, drinks and food. Please do not show and expect a free skate "see question #1" we do pay for this ice and you will be asked to leave. (Any post-game drinks brought will be confiscated)
  • Bringing beer is not considered as Scrub payment, it is considered a donation to the camaraderie.
  • I didn't skate much last year; can I pay for only half?
  • No, we will keep you on a Scrub List for when the bench is thin (and it happens).
  •  Can my kid skate?
  • No, though it is appreciated by some when the bench is short it is generally frowned upon. I really hate telling kids to get off the ice ... jk, I'll definitely tell them to leave.
  • Do you need goalies?
  • YES, every level is encouraged to come out and skate "FREE" plus goalies are given preferential treatment for the post game drink-up.
  • Stephen Willey is our Goalie organizer and can be reached at steve.willey@aecom.com.
  •  Will we be getting a jersey again this year?
  • The double sided jerseys were greatly appreciated when worn by each coach, and with new blood (I mean coaches) coming on board there will be an optional cost to purchase.
  •  Can you define the level of play, it mentions Intermediate?
  •  I consider myself a "C" level skater; 26 years ago I watched the coaches' skate and was asked to come out the next week. Though I was intimidated by the skill set on the ice I was openly encouraged to continue and given weekly encouragement and criticism. My advice to any coach is to come out and skate; this is a league setup to have fun and I especially anticipate every Thursday night getting out and skating. We have a weekly post game drink-up, bi-weekly BBQ along with the hockey, business and family banter.
  • Sounds like a lot of guys, how many typically show up to play?
  • Each week there is a BenchApp link sent out to all registered coaches, you will be given a choice to choose your skill level of skate.
  • Does that mean some weeks I will not be able to play?
  • We are purchasing weekly ice slots and it is your choice to play each week.
  •   Will there be an "Fast" and "Slow" league?
  • Yes, we do not want to break up and separate any coaches from playing together but we do classify the skates between Fast and Slow. Though we have multiple skill levels out on the ice this is not a competition but rather a way for all to get to know each other better and learn from each other.
  • Will I be placed on a team with skill levels equal to my own?
  • We have some Alumni who have been around for awhile; we generally will divide up the two locker rooms from who has shown for the skate based upon what we know of the player's skill level. It's not flawless but we generally can divide the teams pretty well. Since we use double-sided Jerseys it is easy enough to tell a coach to switch sides on the fly if it looks uneven once out on the ice
  •  What about fights and disagreements?
  • If you're the one starting the issue, I highly suggest you Skate away and cool off, if you're on the receiving side, I suggest you simply skate away and let them cool off.
  • What if another coach I don't like is skating in the same slot?
  • This is your call, you can either get over your personal feelings and come enjoy a good skate or we can call up the local BINGO club and enroll you.
