Reston Raiders House Program
The Reston Raiders Hockey Club exists to provide opportunities for boys and girls of all skill levels to play ice hockey, from the beginning player to the highly skilled player. The Raiders seek to instill in every child a love for the game of hockey, with a commitment to fair play and sportsmanship. The Club also is committed to helping each child with the development of personal and social skills. The Raiders want to exemplify the principles and philosophies of USA Hockey and, through coaching excellence, to develop the finest youth hockey players possible. The Club is committed to providing a fun environment for players of all ages and skills, with equal opportunity for all. Our key philosophy is “Fun Hockey for Kids.”
The House program is offered to children at the Mite, Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget levels. For the 2010-11 season, that includes children born between 1992-2004.

Participants in the House program should have skating ability skills as established in the Learn to Skate program or the Star 1 / Pre-Alpha Level as established in the SkateQuest Learn to Skate program. Ice hockey experience such as participation in Raiders Initiation Program or attendance at ice hockey camps is not mandatory, but is quite beneficial.
Practice and Game Times for House Program
Practices:
Below are the planned days and start times for practices for each level in the 2010 - 2010 House Program. In the House league you practice once a week at the same day/time each week.
Mites: Monday at 5:40 or 6:00pm, Tuesday at 4:40pm, or Friday at 6:00pm.
Squirts: Wednesday at 5:40 or 6:00pm.
PeeWees: Monday at 7:10pm or Wednesday at 7:30 or 7:40pm.
Bantams: Monday at 7:30 or 8:40pm or Thursday at 7:10pm.
If you have a schedule conflict, you may email your special request prior to House evaluations September 18 - 19. We cannot guarantee placement on a team practicing at a particular time, but we try to honor special requests. Please only submit serious and direct schedule conflicts, since accommodating special requests makes drafting evenly matched teams quite challenging.
Email special requests to Tony Pane, VP House Administration, at
by September 17.
Games:
This year we will use a block schedule format to provide more consistency in your weekend game schedule. Below is a working idea (ie. It is not finalized) regarding games times.
Mites: Saturday mornings (done by 10am)
Squirts: Saturday mornings (done by 11am)
PeeWees: Saturday mornings (done by 1pm)
Bantams: Sunday evenings (done by 8:45pm)
Midgets: Sunday evenings (done by 8:45pm
Special Note to Inline Skaters: We have found that experienced inline skaters make a smooth transition to ice hockey. If your child does well in roller hockey they will likely do well in ice hockey.
The House evaluation process in September places each skater in the appropriate program based on age, size and skill level, and may include the recommendation that the skater play up/down from their age category or participate in the Initiation Program. Players must register for the House level appropriate to their birth year.
