Girls Tier II Travel, Dual Roster, Coed/Youth Travel
Girls Tier II Travel: The Reston Raiders are one of the region’s most established Tier II Girls Travel Hockey programs. In addition to girls’ travel development opportunities at 8U and 10U, the Raiders have girls-only travel teams at 12U/10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 19U. Our teams compete in the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League (CBHL) and the Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation (AGHF), in addition to playing non-league exhibition games and at tournaments and showcases across the United States and Canada.
Each team is led by experienced USA Hockey certified coaches . Teams play 40-50* games each season to include CBHL and AGHF league games, non-league games and tournaments/showcases, and have 40-50 on-ice practices, a two-week preseason mini-camp and off-ice training opportunities . Dedicated goalie coaches are on the ice for each girls’ team practice. Except as noted, practices take place at SkateQuest in Reston and include full and shared ice practices, with the 12U* and 14U teams sharing practice ice and the 16U and 19U teams sharing ice.
*12U Girls: During the 2023-24 season, the Raiders plan to offer two 12U girls-only travel teams, a 12U AA team that competes in the CBHL 12U Gold division and a 12U/10U team that competes in the CBHL 12U Bronze division. Because the 12U teams will include players who dual roster on a coed team, neither team is expected to compete in the AGHF (subject to change).
12U Gold: The team will have two on-ice practices each week at SkateQuest, one on shared ice with the 14U team and a second skills practice with the 14U team and the 12U Bronze team. This second practice will focus on skill development and hockey tactics and concepts, taught in a station-based format in which each station is adjusted to match the skill and age level of the players.
12U Bronze. The team will have two on-ice practices each week, one taking place at Loudoun Ice Centre exclusively for the 12U Bronze team and a second skills practice at SkateQuest on shared ice with the 14U team and the 12U Gold team. This second practice will focus on skill development and hockey tactics and concepts, taught in a station-based format in which each station is adjusted to match the skill and age level of the players.
Dual Rosters: All girls age 12U and younger have the opportunity to “dual roster” during the season and play on both a girls-only Travel team and a coed team in our Travel or House programs. 12U and younger girls who play coed Travel or House hockey for another club are welcome to dual roster on one of our 12U and younger girls-only teams. Players age 14U and older generally may not dual roster; however the Club will consider dual roster requests for goalies on a case by case basis.
Coed/Youth Travel: Every girl who plays for the Raiders has the opportunity to play on one of the Club’s more than 20 coed/youth Travel teams, in addition to playing girls-only travel, dual rostering or in the House program. This includes at every age (8U-18U) and skill level (AA, Upper A, Lower A, B). Click here to learn more about the coed/youth Travel program.
Spring Program: Each spring, the Raiders offer exciting and unique opportunities for female players via our Spring Selects program. The program includes a 10U Pond Hockey Series [INSERT LINK to 8U/10U Development] and Selects teams at 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U who each have one practice per week focused on skill development and also play weekly games in the Club’s spring coed House program. Each team also may participate in one or two spring tournaments.
