2023-2024 Reston Raiders Girls Travel

The Raiders are excited to announce that for the 2023-24 season we are offering girls-only travel teams at 19U, 16U and 14U, two teams at 12U as well as a 10U Girls Travel Development Team and an 8U Girls Selects team.  Players at 12U and younger are eligible to “dual roster” on both a girls’ team and a youth/coed team.

The 12U-19U teams will compete in the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League (CBHL) and individual teams also may compete in the Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation (AGHF), in addition to playing non-league exhibition games and at tournaments and showcases across the United States and Canada.  Except as noted, teams are expected to play 40-50 games, 40-50 practices, a two-week preseason mini-camp and have off-ice training opportunities led by Washington Capitals strength coach Mark Nemish during the season.  Practices will include full and shared ice practices and teams will have dedicated goalie coaches at each practice in addition to the Club’s experienced USA Hockey certified coaches Raiders Coaches

8U Girls Selects (Registration to open July 1)

The 8U Girls selects team introduces young players to girls-only hockey and provides them the opportunity to play with and against girls their own age.  The team will participate in girls-only jamborees and tournaments throughout the year, including the annual Beach Bash in Ocean City, MD. Girls participating in the program are required to play in the Raiders’ coed 8U Travel or House programs.

Dual Roster Policy

All girls age 8U-12U have the opportunity to “dual roster” during the season and play on both a girls-only travel team and a coed team in our travel or house programs. 8U-12U girls who play coed travel or house hockey for another club are welcome to dual roster on one of our 12U and younger girls-only teams.  Players age 14U and older may not dual roster; however the Club will consider dual roster requests for 14U and older goalies on a case by case basis.

The Raiders and each of our Girls and Coed teams make every effort to enable dual roster players to play on two teams.  However, game and tournament conflicts are expected and unavoidable.   The Club will work with every coed and girls’ team on which players are dual rostered to mitigate conflicts and set expectations prior to the start of the season and as early as possible when team games and tournaments are scheduled.  We request that families who choose to dual roster not abuse the privilege of dual rostering.  Players who dual roster are expected to participate on two teams, including attending practices, games and tournaments in the absence of scheduling conflicts.

The Club will host preseason and pre-tryout meetings with families and coaches of teams on which dual rosters players participate to communicate expectations and answer questions and concerns.
