Reston Raiders Tryouts to Begin Week of July 13th

With the announcement by the PVAHA that Tier II & Travel Tryouts may begin on July 13th, the Raiders are announcing that our Tryouts will commence the week of July 13th.

The PVAHA's announcement on Tier II & Travel Tryouts allow clubs to hold tryouts or offer contracts to players who played for their program during the 2019-2020 Fall/Winter season starting on July 13th.

Then on July 20th clubs may hold tryouts or offer contracts to players from outside their program.

The Raiders have scheduled tryouts to spread across both weeks to accomodate families who may have scheduled vacations during the weeks of July 13th and July 20th, as well as allowing players who would like to join the Raiders, but would be new to the Raiders program.. As noted in the schedule listed below, we will offer two sessions during the first week or tryouts (only available to returning Raiders), and will hold a third and possibly fourth session during the week of July 20th.

Our Goalie Only evaluations will be held on Monday, July 20th.  All players interested in playing goal should plan to attend that session along with all evaluation sessions at their respective age levels.

Local Tier I & II Tryouts - **UPDATED**

Our local USA Hockey Affiliate, the Potomac Valley Amatuer Hockey Association (PVAHA), released an update on local tryouts for the 2020-2021 Travel Hockey Season.  The full document is linked below if you would like to read it, but here are the highlights:

All Tier II Youth 10U–18U/Tier II Girls’ 10U–19U

Beginning on Monday, July 13, 2020, all member associations which are planning to skate Youth 10U–18U teams and Girls’ 10U–19U teams rostered as Tier II (USA Hockey 1T Roster) for the 2020–2021 season, may start to offer player agreements/contracts without on-ice evaluations/tryouts to only those players who were rostered within their respective organization last season (2019–2020). Member associations may also at this time conduct on-ice evaluations/tryouts in lieu of, or in addition to, “contracts without tryouts” if that is their preference. Any on-ice evaluation or tryout must follow State Guidelines, and local Health Department guidelines and restrictions that apply to indoor recreational sports activities including social distancing, facemasks and limitations on the number of people within the facility.

As mentioned in a recent email, the Raiders are planning to start tryouts for our 10U - 18U and Girls Teams the week of July 13th. The exact schedule is not ready for publication, and we're discussing the best way to implement tryouts to allow for our former players and any interested new members to tryout based upon the PVAHA timelines.  We also understand that families may already have vacations scheduled during this time, so we're also taking that into consideration. We will post the schedule and update you as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at .

I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Best Regards,
